Rob left school to become an engineer, progressed from a machine shop to a drawing office and designer role, then into the commercial world as a buyer.
An opportunity arose to apply for a management role, which led to bigger roles, culminating as a director of a large office equipment company with responsibility for some 300 field-based technical staff and some 180 admin, distribution and training teams.
He subsequently moved on to directorships in other businesses, all of which embraced sales and customer service functions, with responsibility for annual revenues from £50k to £102m. In two different companies, he sold products and services through a network of dealers as well as a company sales force.
He found the dynamics and potential of the dealerships fascinating and spent a lot of time helping them to succeed, which meant that he achieved his business objectives. This was the start of his fascination for helping business owners who hadn’t been fortunate enough to benefit from the training and mentoring that he had enjoyed. Rob retired early, retrained as a business coach and now brings his business knowledge and expertise to a wider audience.
There is no stigma to having a Business Coach. It does not mean that you are not competent in your chosen field. Every Olympic athlete and every professional sports person has a coach / mentor. A coach is able to stand back from the day-to-day issues and focus solely on helping you overcome obstacles to improving your performance in your chosen field. The coach doesn’t have to be better at doing your job than you are, they just have to be able to help you become better.
