Mentoring

What do we mean by a Mentor?

The term originally derives from Homer’s Odyssey.

Mentor (in whose guise the goddess Athena often appeared), was an old and trusted friend and counsellor to Odysseus. When Odysseus went off to the Trojan wars, he entrusted Mentor with his household and the education and guidance of his son Telemachus.

Since the mid-18th century until today, the word mentor has been used to mean “a wise and trusted adviser.”

So, what is Business Mentoring and how can it help you?

Running a business, whatever the size, can be a very lonely place.

You often have to take decisions that can have a major impact on the future of your business, your life, your family and your staff – dependent on whether you get them right or wrong.

In an ideal world, you would have someone to discuss things with – someone who has had considerable success in business (and has the scars to prove it), understands your business and understands what you are trying to achieve.

More than that, he (or she) will have got to know you very well – your strengths and weaknesses, your goals and desires, will have your best interests at heart and can be relied upon to tell it like it is.

Virtually every successful entrepreneur, C.E.O. and businessman has had a mentor in their career, who they credit as being a major factor in their success.

What benefits will you get from Business Mentoring?

Reduced risk in decision making by being able to talk the issues through with an experienced, successful business person.
